Slice of Life, Coming of Age, Drama, Comedy
The genre of this film is a depiction of mundane experiences, with "Slice of Life" referring to naturalistic representation of real life which is a narrative technique used to present a sample of a characters life and it gives the audience and idea as to how this character carries himself/herself and it is used in many films when portraying a young main character as it is a stereotype that many adults induce into teenagers. Films like this may present a story with little plot progress and usually doesn't have much exposition or conflict, leaving a more open-ending. this sort of work inspired my idea to create a film that focuses on the reality of a High School Student who procrastinates and the consequences of delaying important things.
"Wake Up Sid" (2009) this film follows Siddharth "Sid" Mehra, a wealthy, carefree college student in Mumbai who lives off his parents' money and avoids responsibility. Sid meets and befriends Aisha Banerjee who is the complete opposite of Sid. She is a ambitious, independent writer who has recently moved to Mumbai to build a career on her own. The turning point of this film comes when Sid fails his exams and has a major fallout with his father, who decides to cut him off financially, Now Sid was forced to live on his own, Finally confronting the consequences of procrastination. This film shows how Sid's procrastination is rooted in privilege, because his basic needs are always met and so he feels no urgency to act, plan or commit showing how Comfort enables delay.
"Clerks" (1994) this film is about two convenience store clerk named Dante & Randal who want something better for their lives but don't actually commit to putting in any effort in order to attain something greater, and they complain about this throughout the film, and we see how they tend to avoid responsibility and are ignorant as Dante says "I'm not even supposed to be here today" he frames everything as an inconvenience imposed on him. Both characters are comfortable enough to stay put, but are unhappy enough to complain constantly showing how procrastination thrives here as nothing forces immediate change.
Procrastination | Short Film (2020) this film perfectly represents procrastination as the main character wakes up and does her morning routine before opening her laptop and seeing that she has to do a 3000 word research paper on Quantum theory. She makes herself a drink and starts researching than looks at the 3000 word and starts tapping her desk and rolling her eyes before she makes herself something to eat. She comes back and still contemplates starting on the research paper.
