Sound in Shows/Movies

 Sound In Shows and Movies

Films are produced using three different types of sound that give life to films. Voice, music, and sound effects. These three are vital towards creating a realistic film for the audience.

Examples of sound in film

Dialogue (Diegetic Sound)

Some of the most common types of sound we find in most films is dialogue. A Diegetic Sound which is a sound that exists inside the world of the story, a sound that characters in the film can hear too. Although a film can be filmed in silence. It loses its realistic feeling, as dialogue is an important tool that tells us a lot about character such as there speaking manners, what makes them happy, what bothers them, and what their purpose is in the film. Dialogue is one of the most important elements in film.

"The Godfather" (1972) "I'm gonna make him an offer he can't refuse."

Non-Diegetic Sound

The opposite of diegetic sound, Non-Diegetic sound is audio that comes from outside the world of the story it can only be heard by the audience, like music, a narrators voiceover and sound effects. Non-diegetic is used in frequently in thriller/horror movies where in the scene tense, ominous music is played that the character can't hear but the audience can.
